Introduction to North
Amityville
The hamlet of North Amityville began as African American veterans returned home
from World War II ready to use their GI Bill benefits to buy a home in the suburbs of New York City. Unfortunately,
by the early 1980s the community had descended into the world of drugs and crime with open-air drug dealing at the crossroads
of the community.
In 1985, those taxpaying,
home owning, veterans began to fight back.
About NATA
Founded
by a group of citizens in 1985 to fight the growing dilemma of drugs, crime and blight, the North Amityville Taxpayers Association
Inc. seeks to serve and preserve the community of North Amityville and its surrounding areas.
Today
In 2007 the North Amityville Taxpayers Association Inc. rebranded to NATA as an Education
and Community Research Center. While we continue to work with the Police and the Town of Babylon, we accomplish our
mission by focusing on individuals whose needs are not being met through other mainstream programs. By creating new
programs and customizing others, NATA believes it represents the most effective means of addressing the different needs of
a widely varying public.
In all its activities, NATA is a friendly and people centric organization
working for a better tomorrow for the individual and the community.
